Updated
About and some other squirrelly
or outdated places around here.
Errands that would have taken no
more than 3 hrs today took all freakin' day because I had to drive Paul to work
and then get him for his lunch so he wouldn't get office cabin fever and drop
him back off and then get him after work and all this commuting just hogged all
this time. Ugh. All I wanted to do today was see my dietitian, lunch with a
buddy I hadn't seen in 8 years, do groceries, do gym, and that's about
it!
I miss having two working cars!
Never even made it to the bank or post office because of the rain. Ugh. Oh, and
things are on fire somewhere and blowing all this smoke around. That's why my
allergies have been evil. Ugh.
On the bright side -- it was GREAT
to see Jen again. I haven't seen her in eight years. She's doing fine and we
made plans to get together again. She's so funny, and so sane -- it's going to
be fun getting reacquainted.
It was also a good dietitian
visit. I don't have to see her again for 2 months because she said I seem to
have a handle on everything! Yeeha! So I only see her right before I do a
little 5 or 10K race dealie as a check on progressin October rather than a
session dealing with major problems.
So what did we cover?
- I've lost some weight since last
month -- yay.
- told me my food log looked good
-- yay
- she was pleased with my protein
intake (problem area for active vegetarian me -- I'd be fine if I wasn't QUITE
so active) -- yay
- my iron looks really good --
yay
New strategies?
We went over my new training
schedule, rearranged my eating goals so it matches that one. I used to have
rest days on Mondays on the old schedule plus light days on
Wed and Fri, but on the new schedule it's different days.
I am to eat more on the days that
I actually have a workout (2000-2300), and I can just go easy on the rest days
since I won't need as much fuel to get me through that day
(no lower than 1500-1600). Basically though, it still averages out to around
1800-1900 calories a day if you look at it as a monthly average thing. I mean,
I want to lose still,
but not so fast my nutrition or workouts suffer for lack of fuel. I have a
marathon to do in January!
She wants me to eat bigger
breakfasts to help meet my protein goals and since I am always rushing we tried
to come up with fast-fix breakfasts that don't hog more
morning time than I am willing to give. I'm a juice/cereal/toast gal because
it's go-go-go to get out the door. Come to think of it, I've been eating cereal
and toast for weekday
breakfast since I was 6! I am supposed to try a "mixed" cereal (think
flakes, nuts, raisins, etc) and add hot chocolate made with soy milk so I can
be drinking that while I am
still getting ready.
I love that she works to make food
fit into my habits so I can keep it up. If she wanted me to do something more
elaborate than that so early in the morning
I'd rebel!
We talked about making good
choices in restaurants too since it's hard for me to know what to order
sometimes. She said to not go out super duper hungry, and just tell
them to box half right off because restaurant portions are so large. I do that
already, except for the bit about having them box it before I even start
eating. Usually I have
them box up whatever I don't finish. She said it might be better to have them
do it beforehand to avoid that "clean plate" pressure to eat more
than I really need to feel full.
Ok, that made sense to me. I'll have to try that next time I go out.
I can only keep so many things in
my head at one time though.
Trying to do somethign about our
food budget. We're fine, nothing's being wasted, but I think if I were a bit
more organized I could squeak with doing groceries every 3 weeks. With this car
thing being a big question mark, I rather not have to deal with too many trips
around. I don't have the flexibility.
If I knew how to put his car back
together myself I'd do it!
