Question: I gradually took myself off Prozac( 20 mg bid) - I was on it from 1989 until March 1999. In 21/2 months I was in the depths of depression et al. Asked my new doctor to put me back on it. I have been on 20 mg for 11/2 weeks. Are their long term side effects? I will be seeing a psychiatrist on the 23rd of August and will be transferred to yet another new doctor. (HMO manipulations) next month. Is there anything I can do to support myself while waiting and going thru all theses changes? Answer: Not really, medication is invaluable.
So far no long term effects have been discovered. Prozac hasn't killed anyone - even in massive overdose - and is being used in children and pregnancy. The long term effects of untreated depression and BPD are horrible. Life is a series of choices of risks vs benefits. Try to be grateful a medication like Prozac is available rather than upset you need to take it. top | next | table of contents | current month | last month home
