Borderline Personality Disorder - BPD faqs

Question:

I have a seventeen year friendship with a professionally diagnosed BPD. The past two years have been quite intense and my life has been suffering from this situation. I am married and my friend is very jealous of my husband and my relationship. She has recently started acting as though she is my spouse, telling people I am now her wife and kissing me on the mouth in public. All of her previous relationships, although brief have been with men.

I have been searching for information to help me save our friendship but can only find material related to married couples. Am desperately seeking information on how to deal with BPD in a platonic relationship.

Answer:

The usual rules apply and there is a wealth of information on this website. The unstable and intense interpersonal relationships are with virtually everyone, not just the spouse. Randy Kreger's book "Stop walking on Eggshells" may be helpful to you.
