Parents Worry About Kids on Internet
(June 07, 2006) -
U.S. parents say they are more concerned about what their kids see
online than what they watch on
television.
A survey by Common Sense Media found that most parents are conflicted
about the Internet -- intrigued by its power to educate yet fearful of
what their children might wander into -- the San Francisco Chronicle
reported.
Forty-percent of the parents who responded to the survey said they
"actively" spend a few days a week seeking information about their
children's online behavior, the newspaper said.
"It's a love-hate relationship parents have with the Internet," said
Jim Steyer, founder of the non-partisan non-profit group, which is
launching an Internet safety campaign.
In the next few weeks, television networks and Internet portals are
expected to air Common Sense Media's suggestions to parents on how to
monitor their
children's media consumption, the newspaper said.
