October 2, 2000
I'm slow. Every year, I mean to
catch Grey Day and
World
Vegetarian Day. Every year, I am busy doing something on Oct. 1st and by
the time I get to it, the day is over! It's like trying to get to the
Strawberry Festival or the Fringe Festival. I've been not-attending those for
years. Sigh.
Other October things I care
about?
- AIDS Awareness Month
- Breast Cancer Awareness
- Dinosaur Month
- Gay & Lesbian History Mo.
- Pregnancy and Infant Loss
Awareness Month
- U.S. Elections
- Vegetarian Awareness Month
I am trying to ignore that it is
also cookie and caramel month. Like we needed those atop Halloween!
Talked to Hannah last night and
they are fine, and got my package. They are coming over to the BBQ this
weekend, so we can meet. Joe is excited about the reptiles (I had sent him
photos of the pets), so it should be pretty cool. She told me he's been telling
everyone at school that he's my hero. LOL.
Paul is hurrying through his
rockets so they will be ready to launch and when I spoke to Greg (BIL) he was
doing the same thing when I had called them up. When I called Angie, she told
me my MIL is in the midst of moving into her new home -- yay! They finished
building the house! So my SIL is spending the night over there and before they
come over they want to go check out some sofa sales.
I may be getting a cold -- which I
don't want! I have to try to circumvent it. The cold snap took me by surprise.
This morning was only 73 deg on the heat index and the predicted high today is
only 86. The weather was so mild this weekend, Paul finished up the car stuff
pretty quickly. I know a large part of putting it off was not wanting to be in
the sweltering heat of the garage. Sometime, in the next few months, I want to
tile the laundry room floor for the same reason! I am soooooo glad though. Now
that it's not in pieces, I can call around for estimates and have it towed to
wherever to cover the repairs Paul can't do. then I can have my car back.
YAY!
I don't think we will be wading
though on Satuday at the BBQ. I had been thinking the kids, and some of the
adults, might like a wading pool in the yard to help stay cool -- in 90-100 deg
heat, I would! But now I see the expected HIGH for Saturday is just 78 deg., so
I may skip it. I'll know better on Friday. Let's hope for no rain though --
that's the main concern.
It's going to be a very chilly
Sunday morning on 10K day and I have only two windpants. Which to wear? Do I
need to buy more long-legged and long-sleeved fitness clothing to alst me
through the season?
I have a feeling they are going to
have us run the last 6.2 miles of the marathon course layout but backwards --
start at Epcot and then end in Wide World of Sports. Depending on who I talk
to, I get a different answer. Some say 2 hrs to finish the course. So 6.2 miles
in 2 hrs is 19 min and 21 sec per mile pace. Some people say 15 minute per mile
pace or else you get picked up. I'm so glad the first 5K I did in May
had no time limit to speak of. This one is making me nervous!
I have a whole week to go throught
the heebie jeebies. It doesn't help I am behind a day on the schedule, and that
I keep wondering what to wear if it's going to be cool. I know for the race in
Jan. Adrith and I wanted to be at 15 minute per mile pace, but I guess actually
trying to do it for the first time in a real race just makes me feel
weird!
Last time, I did 15 min the first mile, then started
slowing down over the next couple miles, but last time I also had problems with
my shoes and part of the course was hilly. There won't be too many hills at the
10K. And that was 5 months ago. Surely I've improved!? I hope so!
Well, I guess that's the main
reason I am doing this one. To iron out those kinds of issues before the bigger
race. Hydrapak or bike bottle? Hmm.
