Although, publicly, few
psychiatrists speak out against ECT, privately some have views that stray from
the party line.
In a survey from the
APA task force on ECT,
psychiatrists were asked:
"Is it likely that ECT
produces slight or subtle brain damage?"
41 percent voted yes, with only 26
percent voting no.
