Remembering the things that my
sister did when she was manic is very hard now, but some things are
so strange that they are hard to forget. When I took this picture,
my sister had just left the house and was about to walk down the
street with her guitar and her ripped up nightgown and jacket.
She
could not even play her guitar, and as she sang in her loud, angry
voice, she was not someone who most people would want to listen to.
Yet my sister truly believed that she was great, and that everyone
wanted to hear her sing. But before she walked away, I asked my
sister to stop so I could take a picture. She posed and grinned as
the shutter snapped. I can still see it now. At that moment...I
think I caught a little bit of the fear in my sister's eyes.
