ANXIETY, PANIC ATTACKS AND AGORAPHOBIA -
Information For Support People, Family and Friends

Review by Bronwyn Fox author of the best selling books:
Anxiety Attack - Don't Panic; Power over Panic and Taking Back the Power.
At last! A practical and compassionate book for people who support their partner,
family member or friend who has an anxiety disorder.
Anxiety disorders are estimated to effect 10 - 12% of the population. What is not
recognized is the fact the disorders not only impact on the lives of people who experience
them, but also impact on partners, family members and friends. Even at a conservative
estimate we are talking of up to 24% of the population whose lives are directly effected
through the Disorders.
While information about anxiety disorders is now growing within the health professions
and for people who experience an anxiety disorder, until this book there was no literature
available specific for support people.
Author, Ken Strong, writes with an intimate understanding through his own experience of
and recovery from Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia. In addition, Ken also writes with the
intimate experience of being a support person, to not only one person with an Anxiety
Disorder but as a support to many thousands of support people worldwide through his
extensive website.
Anxiety, Panic Attacks and Agoraphobia is now being used as a general overview
in clinics, hospitals, and by medical professionals. It also provides much needed
information for school counselors/staff members and employers and employees.
This book is a valuable resource and provides the much needed information for Support
people, people with an anxiety Disorder, health professionals, in fact anyone who is
involved in some way with Anxiety Disorders.
Review by Barbara Casagrande, Anxiety & Panic
Consultant with Serenity Counseling Services.
This easy-to-read book is a must for every support person, as well as every person
riddled with anxiety and panic. Ken has written a comprehensive, concise book that clearly
states the support person's role in helping the anxious person recover.
Being a former sufferer, Ken is qualified to describe how the panic-struck person
feels, and what the support person can or can not do for them. This book was designed to
give friends, family, and support givers a clear understanding of anxiety, panic attacks
and agoraphobia, and I must say he has done a great job in doing just that.
Chapter by chapter, Ken takes apart this illness and describes and explains the various
dimensions of anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia. He starts out explaining stress and
moves to explaining the different forms of anxiety, depression, anxiety and panic attacks
and their causes, medications, and methods of treatment. Each chapter is dedicated to a
specific malady of the illness, as well as explaining what it feels like to be a support
person.
He also writes in detail, how a support person can help the person who is still sick.
Chapter Ten answers the most frequently asked questions. This section is great because
even though it is entitled, "Frequently Asked Questions" they are questions that
the support person or the nervously ill person are very often afraid to ask. Once these
questions are answered, the support person and sufferer, can experience peace and calmness
of mind.
The size of the book allows you to carry it with you easily. It gives one confidence to
have the help available as needed.

We have ordered several copies of your book for our University library. I, as a
Psychologist, thought that you have been so sensitive and knowledgeable in setting the
book out, I have no problem recommending it. I will ask some of the other libraries to
stock it.
