ATTACKS |
I do have panic attacks, but before
they start I get a feeling that nothing is real, including
myself. I sometimes feel as if I am standing behind myself
and it is really frightening. I can also feel really dizzy
which only makes everything worse. I do panic, but I panic
as a result of these feelings. No one seems to understand
what I am saying. [MORE]
HELP! I am only 23 years old and have had panic attacks
for about 3 years and it is destroying my self-esteem, my
confidence level---well, practically it is taking over my
life. [MORE]
I can tell that I am going to get the following feelings
ahead of time, approx. 2-5 sec. The feeling starts as though
it is a dejavu feeling and then I feel that things around me
are not real. My sight and hearing are more acute, my throat
gets tight only for 2 sec. I get goose bumps throughout my
body. During this rush, as I call it, I have the
tendency... [MORE]
I feel I may have a slight form of panic attack. For the
past year, I have had these attacks. It is never in public.
It is always when I am alone, usually at home. I feel a
"rush" coming over me and sort of a quick
"blackout". [MORE]
After spending a couple of hours at the hospital, they
told me that my infection was gone and I was probably just
having a panic attack. WHAT, ME? NO WAY! I'm just not like
that. So, I went home and tried to relax but it continues to
happen. [MORE]
Last night, he experienced the worst panic attack he has
ever had. He believed he was going crazy and experienced
several physiological symptoms such as shortness of breath,
nausea, pain in his extremities and a general "sense of
impending doom". My question is what should a person do
while experiencing a panic attack. [MORE]
Just about one year ago, I had my first "panic
attack". I thought I was having a heart attack and
ended up going to the emergency room where the doctor there
told me I had a pinched nerve. However, the so-called
"pinched nerve" didn't go away. I went to a family
doctor who told me I had the symptoms of a panic disorder. [MORE]

| PHOBIAS |
I am a 27-year old woman
and I was diagnosed with Anxiety/ Panic attacks three days
ago. I am currently taking Xanax .25mg. Is this dosage
addictive? I have been reading a lot of the questions and
answers on your website and I don't have the same problems
that most of the people that I read about. I can't think of
anything that I am afraid of doing. I don't feel stressed
out, but I am having Anxiety attacks. Is that normal for
people suffering from Anxiety/Panic attacks not to have
phobias? [MORE] |

THINKING |
Why do you object to
replacing our negative thoughts with other ones. When I feel
anxious, I divert my thoughts away from the anxiety. [MORE] |

NATAL DEPRESSION |
I am a 30-year old mother of two. About
two months after the birth of my second daughter, I started
having difficulty falling asleep at night. Many nights, I
would go to bed between 10 and 11 pm and not fall asleep
until 2-3 am. [MORE] |

TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER |
I have been having nightmares and flashbacks for a number
of years which relate to abuse in my childhood. I also have
panic attacks and anxiety as well. [MORE]
Last week, I went to a therapist. She thinks I have a
anxiety problem. Scary. I knew I had a problem when I
started having very bad nightmares and would not sleep. It
got to the point I wouldn't sleep at all; maybe 3-4 hours.
Then, one night, I woke up and couldn't breath. I had sweat
dripping off of me. I could not scream, I could not breath.
Alot of traumatic things have occurred in the past year. [MORE]

| PREGNANCY |
Due to the recent discovery
of my pregnancy, my physician wants me off my meds. My palms
are sweaty and heart races just thinking about it. The
thought that the attacks may come back scares me to death. I
also am VERY sensitive to meds., and if there is a reaction
to be had, I have it. Sometimes I think I talk myself into
it, but it still is real to me. Do you have any quick
suggestions on how to handle the inevitable stopping of
Xanax ( due to the risk of birth defects)? [MORE] |

I've had an anxiety disorder for 16
years . I tried many things but nothing worked until I was

SPEAKING |
Over the last several
years, whenever I am put into a situation where I have to
speak to a group, conduct a meeting, I sometimes get
nervous- now more often than usual. A tremendous tickle
occurs causing me to cough or clear my throat. [MORE] |
| RECOVERY |
I just want to recover. That is all I think about. I am
obsessed with it and no matter how hard I try I just can't
seem to get there. [MORE]
I am recovering from panic disorder. I am 42-years old
and first displayed symptoms at the age of 28, after the
sudden loss of my father to a heart attack. I struggled for
several years before my panic attacks became full blown. [MORE]

| STRENGTH |
My disorder started 10
years ago. I guess from 28 years of abuse from people that
were close to me and I went into same-time panics at 4 a.m.
every morning. From that, it went to depression, and from
that it progressed to this damn agoraphobic feeling I get
when I go out sometimes. I am sure I will get through it
with help. It makes me so mad to think how strong and
independent I was to what I am now. [MORE] |
| STRESS |
Since you really have no warning when these attacks are
going to happen and you don't have any idea why they happen,
is it possible for stress, to build up so much over a long
period of time ( 7 months) and then manifest itself into
these attacks!! Does that make sense? [MORE]
I knew that I was under severe stress at work but, I did
not know it could cause panic attacks. Do you know of anyone
like me that has developed panic attacks from job-related
stress? [MORE]

| SYMPTOMS |
I have this new symptom -[MORE]
Even though I am quite able to accept that the symptoms I
am experiencing are purely physical, I am still treated as
though I have a mental illness. My attacks are spontaneous
in nature and are characterized by some of the common
physical manifestations. [MORE]
I was wondering has anyone ever reported feeling the
symptoms of what they perceived as an oncoming heart attack
or stroke or cancer before starting to panic about it. [MORE]

| THERAPIST |
I feel very offended that I
should have to go and see a psychiatrist or a psychologist.
They are for people who have a mental illness. I have
anxiety and panic. [MORE] |
| THERAPY |
I'm writing for a friend who has had panic attacks for
the last 2 years. She has gone through quite a lot of
alternative health therapies, some conventional medication (eg.
Xanax), a bit of hypnotherapy all to no avail, and the
situation with the panic attacks is now reaching a crisis
point. [MORE]
I have had this problem for the past 15 years. I have
been to so many doctors and all they want to do is give me
drugs. I was on Xanax for about 3 years, not a large dosage,
but I really did have to ween off of it slowly. I will never
get back on that again. [MORE]
I was first diagnosed with panic disorder about three
years ago and I have since developed agoraphobia. I would be
grateful for a referral to a CBT therapist as close to my
location as possible. I have been on Xanax for almost three
years (2.0 mg daily) and over the past two months I have
managed to reduce the dose to 1.125 mg. [MORE]
Hi!!! I have a friend who suffers from panic attacks
about once a month or so and he refuses to take medication
to help control it. So, I was wondering if an alternative
therapy would be helpful. For example, is there a specific
essential oil (for aromatherapy) that could be particularly
useful for him? [MORE]

| THINKING |
My symptoms have changed over the years.
But now I know that negative thinking can hold you down. The
fear of fear. "what if ....happens?" cycle must be
broken. Over the years, I have received treatment from
psychologists, hypnotherapists, doctors, a reiki healer. [MORE] |
