What is so great about Cognitive
Behaviour Therapy?
|
We have been receiving quite a number of questions
about the effectiveness of medication vs the
effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, (CBT).
As part of this article we are going to use a series of
emails between Bronwyn, a partner in PAEMS and author of
the book, 'Power over Panic', and Lorri who had Panic
Disorder/Agoraphobia for 18 years. The emails discuss
Lorri's experience with CBT and her final steps into
full recovery. We know that when you read Lorri's emails
and her Journal you will be inspired as we have been in
reading them and we would like to thank Lorrie for
allowing us to publish them on our website. It is a
great gift Lorrie, thank you.

What is so great about Cognitive
Behaviour Therapy? Part 2- Self Issues
|
In this series of emails Lorrie and Bronwyn begin to
discuss the all important issues to do with the Self.
Although these issues are rarely discussed in relation
to Anxiety Disorders, we have found over the years that
these issues become the most important issues in
recovery.

The Line Between Anxiety and
Depression
|
The diagnosis of depression and anxiety can run along
similar lines. In this article, we will look at the
conundrum - where is the line drawn between depression
and anxiety? It is hard to sift through the data
available to designate a defining line that states this
is anxiety with depression as the secondary effect, or
this is depression with anxiety as a secondary effect.
With depression being the latest promoted
"Disorder" for the 90's it will be hard for
all concerned to define. Anxiety is placed in the
background as a ground swell of Depression diagnosis
arise.

The Politics of
Anxiety Disorder Treatments. Who Suffers?
|
We are in a unique position knowing what is, or more
to the point, what is not happening in regards to
treatment services for many thousands (millions...) of
people with Anxiety Disorders. The following paper is
based upon the issues raised by our client group which
is now supported by numerous international research
studies. The question of appropriate treatment for
people can come down to politics ... and in the end ....

Taking Back the Power
|
'If no one is going to rescue me...?', is a question
from Nathaniel Branden's book ' The Six Pillars of Self
Esteem' (1) and is a question we ask in one of our Panic
Anxiety Management Follow up Programs. The open ended
question is provoking.

interesting issues. Issues we have been researching for
a number of years, including the issue of the role that
hormones play in anxiety and panic.

Resistance
|
On it's most basic level, resistance occurs on the
mental/ thought level, emotional level, and bodily
level. The issues presented deal with how to reduce
stress and anxiety within our lives. The underlying
message in all of this is that each of us were born to
live. A simple statement on the surface and quite
obvious. However, there is so much power contained
within this statement. We were born to LIVE. . If we are
caught in the webs of anger, inner critic, guilt cycle,
anxiety cycle, low self esteem - then our ability to
truly live are limited.
A Five Part Series: An understanding of the nature of
the mind and thinking , An understanding of resistance
as it effects our lives on all levels, More advanced and
subtle forms of resistance
