Bronwyn Fox has been working in the area of Anxiety Disorders
since 1984 after recovering from Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia. As
Anxiety Disorders had only been recognized by the medical profession
since 1980, there were no resources available in the community,
therefore increasing the isolation and suffering of those that
experienced them. Having personally experienced the intense
suffering of an Anxiety Disorder, Bronwyn became determined to
provide much needed services for others in the community also
experiencing Anxiety Disorders. There are over 2 million people in
Australia that experience an Anxiety Disorder.
Bronwyn was a co-founder of the Panic Anxiety Disorder
Association (PADA) in 1987, a consumer group that provides
education, information, referral
and teaches management techniques to people who experience an
Anxiety Disorder. She lobbied South Australian Health Services for
much needed recognition and funding. Since that time, PADA has
become the largest National organization for people with Anxiety
Disorders. From small beginnings in South Australia, Bronwyn has
helped form similar Associations in every state in Australia. She
has never tired in her mission to provide appropriate services for all
people who experience an Anxiety Disorder, regardless of locality,
gender or position in community.
Bronwyn was also a co-founder of the Anxiety Disorders Foundation
and was Deputy Chairperson of the Foundation. Bronwyn advocates for
appropriate treatment services for people with Anxiety Disorders,
both at a state and federal level. She has worked with health
professionals in all areas - General Practitioners, Psychologists,
Psychiatrists, Nursing staff, Community Health workers; to increase
their awareness and education on Anxiety Disorders.
Bronwyn conducts her Panic Anxiety Management Program around
Australia, in every capital city and especially in the regional
country regions, where resources are minimal at best. The demand for
this Program is extremely high, often being booked out months in
advance. PADA has received acknowledgement of her work when it won
the Australian and New Zealand Mental Health Achievement 1995 Silver
Award for Non-Government Services for her programs and workshops.
Her program has also been assessed by a leading Anxiety Disorder
specialist and researcher, Associate Professor Julian Hafner, as
being 85% effective for people who experience an Anxiety Disorder.
Over 300 people who experienced an Anxiety Disorder participated in
the study. Participants in the study showed a significant decrease
in symptoms at a 3 month follow up. Over the years, thousands of
people have gone on to recover as a result of Bronwyn's work. Untold
number of people have benefited from Bronwyn's dedication.
The Australian actor Garry McDonald received information of
Bronwyn's work. He read her bestseller book 'Anxiety Attack, Don't
Panic' and as result recognized his own Panic Disorder. He has since
recovered fully. He wrote the Forward for her second bestseller book
'Power over Panic'.
Bronwyn Fox has also continued to conduct research in the area of
Anxiety Disorders and has traveled to the USA twice to present her
findings at conferences. Today, she is highly recognized and
referred to by associates in America and Canada.
Many times she has sat down in sheer fatigue and has said
"No more." She takes a deep breath and then gets back up
to continue her work. She is determined, highly focused and
dedicated to her goal. Her goal being that all people who are
suffering from the silent, debilitating, intense suffering of an
Anxiety Disorder receive appropriate treatment so they can recover.
As she says "So they can take back the power ... so they can
live again". It is from a place of great compassion that she
sees the suffering of others, sees it is needless, and works to
remedy the situation.
Overall, Bronwyn Fox is a leading authority on Anxiety Disorders.
She is highly respected by both Health Professionals and people who
experience Anxiety Disorders.
