FROM: National Discount Brokers FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NATIONAL DISCOUNT BROKERS EXPANDS EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS WITH LINK TO CENTER FOR ON-LINE ADDICTION Agreement Provides Access to Information and Counseling on Online Behavior NEW YORK, NY March 11, 1999 -- In a move expanding the range of educational services it provides to online investors, National Discount Brokers, a leading Internet brokerage and financial services company and subsidiary of National Discount Brokers Group (NYSE: NDB), today announced an agreement linking ndb.com to the Center for On-Line Addictions site, netaddiction.com, the first web site offering information and counseling on online behavior. The agreement will allow visitors to www.ndb.com a link to the resources available at www.netaddiction.com. Last December, NDB launched NDB University, the first organized instructional program offered by an online broker. "Our aim at NDB is to give investors not only a wide array of financial resources and market information but also the educational tools to help them reach their financial goals," said Dennis Marino, Chairman and CEO of National Discount Brokers. "We developed NDBU to increase knowledge about investing, financial markets and personal finance among online investors. Our link with netaddiction.com will provide important information and resources to understand responsible use of online investing and other Internet services." Netaddiction.com is the Internet site of the Center for On-Line Addiction, started by Dr. Kimberly Young in 1995. The Center is the first consultation and training firm to address issues of online behavior and net compulsion. The site contains the first virtual clinic for those seeking help with Cyber-disorders as well as an extensive Resource Center providing a self-evaluation quiz to see if there is a problem, research and referral links and an online bookstore. Dr. Young, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh, is a well-known lecturer on the topic of online disorders and the author of "Caught in the Net", the first recovery book for Internet addiction. "The popularity of the Internet and the phenomenal growth of online investing has created some obsessive behavior among the new web traders," said Dr. Kimberly Young, founder and CEO of the Center for On-Line Addiction. "Like those with gambling problems, we are beginning to see people who take online investing to excess. NDB is providing an extremely important service to their customers by giving them the opportunity to visit netaddiction.com and learn more about online behavior. I applaud their interest and responsibility in this area and am excited about our relationship." Headquartered in Jersey City, New Jersey, National Discount Brokers Group, Inc. (NYSE: NDB) is the parent company of two financial services entities: National Discount Brokers and Sherwood Securities. National Discount Brokers Group, Inc. also owns a 46.8% membership interest in a limited liability company, Equitrade Partners, a specialist on the NYSE. Combined, the three entities generate more than six million transactions annually. home
