Center for Victims of Torture

Anxiety Research Group
This site from the University of Arizona focuses on behavioral and neural underpinnings of anxiety disorders using data from a variety of species. In particular, they are using behavioral, endocrine, and fMRI studies to outline the characteristics and properties of human spatial cognition under normal and highly stressful conditions. Their focus has been on testing a model of specific phobia originally outlined by Jacobs and Nadel (1985) and expanded to include other anxiety disorders by Jacobs, Nadel, & Hayden (1992). They have recently made a number of exciting empirical discoveries through the use of a newly developed computer-based method of studying place learning and memory in humans.
