Anxiety Effects on You and Your Loved Ones (And Overcoming Anxiety for Good)

(December 12, 2007) -- Anxiety – that unpleasant, nagging feeling of worry and fear – affects all of us from time to time. For some of us, though, anxiety can be all-consuming, interfering with our daily lives, relationships and physical health. Overcoming the stress of anxiety leads us back to mental and physical well-being. This process doesn’t have to be difficult; or even time-consuming.

Signs That Anxiety is Affecting You

If you often feel anxious or fraught with worry, and perhaps can’t remember the last time you felt relaxed, anxiety is affecting you. But anxiety can take on other forms as well, including:

• Excessive worry about everyday occurrences

• Feeling a need to check and recheck things

• Feeling fearful and anxious for no reason

• Often feeling that something bad is going to happen for no reason

Over time anxiety can also manifest into physical symptoms that develop due to the constant stress, worry and tension, such as:

• Insomnia

• Feeling on edge and irritable

• Trouble concentrating or impatience

• Muscle tension

• Excessive sweating

• Headaches

• Feeling a “lump in your throat”

• Shortness of breath

• Fatigue

• Teeth grinding (bruxism)

Many studies have shown that people who worry constantly do not handle stress well and are at an increased risk of ill health up to and including death.

Aside from the physical symptoms, people with anxiety problems are also at risk of depression and other mental health disorders, including panic attacks and phobias. The excessive worry can also drive a wedge into your relationships, your career and your ability to enjoy life.

Release the Anxiety and Enjoy Life Again

At its heart, anxiety is just a feeling, and that feeling can be released. Right now, this notion may sound hard to believe, but thousands of people have freed themselves of anxiety by doing just that, using a tool called The Sedona Method.

The Method teaches you how to release worry, fear and anxiety on the spot, leaving you free to feel relaxed and at ease.

“Anxiety can be released like any other feeling,” says Hale Dwoskin, CEO and director of training at Sedona Training Associates. “With chronic anxiety, there is a much longer, more involved story associated with it. If you find you are getting lost in the story, remember you can decide to let that go as well.”

Along with The Sedona Method, the following tips can help you overcome your anxiety and live your life to the fullest:

• Focus on the present. “Allow yourself to focus on what is actually here now as opposed to focusing on the label ‘anxiety’ and the story ‘it is chronic.’ Once you are focused on the sensations, pictures and sounds that are actually here now it is much easier to let go of the anxious feelings,” Dwoskin points out.

• Exercise. People who exercise are less likely to develop anxiety disorders, according to a study in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

• Talk about your feelings. Sometimes, sharing your concerns with a close friend, loved one or counselor can help you to gain a new outlook on life.
