EFFECTIVE ACCOMMODATIONS FOR ATTENTIONAL CHALLENGES

1. Paraphrasing

2. Written Lists

3. Short organizational meetings (in AM around 10:00 , not 8:00)
-too early interferes with preparation time

4. Phone reminders

5. memo's and signs, wall planners, posters or to do lists

Effective accommodations are essential for progress in life situations as well as employment. In the workplace, accommodation for those of us with Learning Disabilities such as ADD and Dyslexia they can make the difference between success and failure.

If is my own opinion that many employers do not recognized the positives which the disabled employee brings to the workplace, but may often tend to focus on what they consider the "negatives" of the disabled employee. It is my belief that those of us with learning disabilities working in supportive environments tend to be very loyal and hard working. We are used to fighting to overcome obstacles and will do a tremendous amount of work to be successful. In my experience we take work home to complete on our own time and will work very hard to complete what we understand to be important and critical projects if it is at all within our capabilities.
