Self-Help And Support Group Information

An overview of what Coaching is really about.

The purpose of coaching is to help you learn how to do the things you want to do. This is not about something you are doing right or wrong, it is about helping you become more aware of how you function, learn, use your time and make your choices. In a word, this is about helping you to develop an "Awareness" of what you do every day, and the type of choices you make.

All coaching in negotiable, if this is not working for some reason we can discuss it. If you feel we are doing to much, we can talk about it. Coaching is not counseling or therapy. It is about developing your awareness.

People often take on more than they can do, or allow themselves to be overwhelmed by their daily lives for many reasons. Some people make choices that have very little to do with what they want in their lives. Often we feel we want to "fit in", or help someone else with something, or allow ourselves to be constantly interrupted or distracted. These types of choices are normal and not good or bad, they simply make it harder for us to achieve what we want to achieve in our lives.

Many skills about making choices, prioritizing activities, doing time management, and understanding how we learn have not developed during our adolescence. We often do not understand the need for a well rounded or balanced lifestyle The reasons we didn't learn these skills is of lesser importance in coaching, what matters is that you can now make the choice to learn how to gain more control of your life, and get more of the things done that are important to you.

Often because we know we need to have "time off" and "fun time" in our lives we will "have fun" whenever the opportunity presents itself, no matter what the cost in getting our work, relationship or school activities completed. This can leave us feeling guilty about our relaxation time, and dissatisfied with the time we spend working toward our goals. Completing tasks that are unpleasant but that we know we must do is hard, but not impossible if being successful is really important to us. A primary goal of coaching is to allow us to have the recreation time we need, and still be organized and focused enough to get our work related tasks done.

A myth we often believe is that we can get everything done that we want to, if we just work hard enough. This is not true! We can often do many of the things we want to do, but only if we work on a few of them at a time. Often we must do them over a period of hours, days or weeks. The only way to truly achieve your goals is to spread the work out over many smaller steps until it is completed. Sustaining our effort during the period required to complete our tasks can be very challenging.. Once our project is successfully completed, we can move on to the next, and enjoy the success of the projects we have completed and done well.

For many of us this requires someone to coach us, help us feel that we are moving on the right track, and helping us to build a pattern of success. This is what coaching is all about, helping you to achieve what it is you really want to do, not what your coach wants you to do. Remember, coaching is about you working for your own success.

Thank you for your interest in coaching, I wish you all the success you deserve
