Dorothy's Story

I'm afraid this story may be a bit boring and without pertinent detail to explain my daily dilemmas that seems directly to relate to my ADD. This will be short and to the point (at least that's how it will begin...often,

I become over involved in what I'm writing or saying and I go on and on. First off, I want to express my appreciation for this wonderful format; I was looking for a chat room with other ADD adults, but since I'm new at this Internet business, I couldn't find one. What I really need is a means of meeting and talking to other adults with ADD. I live in a remote area in northern North Dakota, and not only do I have no one I know with whom I can discuss my ADD, I don't even dare admit to anyone except a few close members of my family that I have ADD.

I would like to try finding or starting a support group around this area. There are groups, but they are for parents with ADD children. My main concern is that I feel restless and bored at the same time. It feels like my present lifestyle doesn't coincide with my wants and needs. I try to "improve" myself on a daily basis, but end up with another failure of a day because I don't reach my goals. I try various suggestions on organizational techniques, etc. so I can get on with fun in my life.

I was able to keep stimulated (although highly stressed) at my job working as a teacher for children with special needs. I loved many parts of my job, but the organizational skills, time management, over focusing on the parts I liked best and procrastinating on those I didn't like kept me in a state of stress, and I felt I needed a change, so now I'm without a job and in the process of figuring out what is right for me to do from here.

What I need now, are cohorts that I can relate to; share tips, suggestions, and support. Also, I love to find out as much as I can about the new studies, ideas, etc. on ADD. Thanks so much for this opportunity. I know it isn't exactly a story, so you may not want it printed under stories, but if you e-mailed me back with any suggestions, I'd be so grateful. Thanks, again!!!!
