Resources for Adults With Attention Deficit Disorder

Self-Talk is most simply described by Dr. Helmstetter as "the programming process of the brain." In his many best-selling books on this subject, he explains how every action we do-or don't do-is the result of a belief we have. Each belief we hold started as an idea input into our brain through an experience we succeeded or failed at, something someone said about us, or even something we said about ourselves.

Our strongest beliefs-our controlling forces-are like well-worn roads that we don't even have to think about as we drive on them. So, if we learned through an experience that we were "not as smart as an older brother or sister," for example, that belief, repeated often enough, becomes a "super highway" to the control center of the brain, where it is stored in a file marked "smart," or in this case "not smart."

So, if we learned through an experience that we were "not as smart as an older brother or sister," for example, that belief, repeated often enough, becomes a "super highway" to the control center of the brain, where it is stored in a file marked "smart," or in this case "not smart."

With programs stored showing how "not smart" we are, there is no way we can do well at school, work, life. Even if we do something right we will believe it was an accident or because we had help.

We cannot go back to when any of our "guaranteed-to-fail" or low self-esteem programs were created, but we can actively create and store new information about how we want to be

The Brain Doesn't Care

The brain doesn't have to believe what it stores. In fact, it doesn't care what it stores. It just stores information about you. Right or wrong. True or false. It stores. AND IT MUST ACT ON THE STRONGEST BELIEF STORED!

Dr. Shad Helmstetter has spent years researching why some people succeed and others fail. People who succeed have "programs" that say they can; "programs" of high self-esteem. People who need to create new beliefs that say "I can do it" could benefit from having a personal coach follow them and speak encouraging messages. Eventually the coach would create for them a new picture of their self-esteem, their ability to try and succeed. Then the brain would tell them to try harder, to do different things, to hang in and feel great about whatever they do try. THAT'S WHAT THE BRAIN HAS TO DO WHEN THE MESSAGE IS STRONG ENOUGH.

But we cannot carry a personal coach around. Instead, Dr. Helmstetter has created his special Self-Talk Cassettes to provide those messages. Played in the background several times a day, (morning, during the day, before bed, for example), these messages are literally the voice of a very special coach who is storing new beliefs in the brain.

There is no easier way!

This tapes in this special album of Self-Talk Casssettes were chosen by D. Steven Ledingham. Steven is a personal coach, the creator of the ASK© System for training ADD adults, author of The Scoutmaster's Guide To ADD and co-author of The ADDed Dimension. Steven uses these tapes personally and has encouraged his clients to incorporate them into their daily routines. Each tape is about a specific topic that most learning-challenged people struggle with daily.

Behavioral scientists know it takes at least 3 weeks to change a habit. Be willing to listen to these tapes for at least 3 weeks and watch yourself create a new picture of you. Continue playing them as you experience yourself accepting new challenges with greater enthusiasm and optimism.

By playing these cassettes, you are actively taking responsibility for creating a NEW YOU who can succeed. If you do not change the programs you have that work against you, you have no choice-you must act and live on those programs, most of which were put there by other people.

About This Special Collection...

"Those of us with learning disabilities such as attention deficit disorder or dyslexia, for example, can create healthy self-esteem and successful compensation techniques. We can create a success pattern in our lives and in the beliefs we accept about ourselves. I believe in and use Dr. Helmstetter's tapes, When he said I could make them available to you, I thought hard about which topics would help you most. I am delighted with the selections in this special collection There truly is no easier way!".

During the past 10 years Dr. Helmstetter has appeared on more than 1200 radio and television programs including Oprah Winfrey, ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN News. Many other speakers and motivators have seen his information about how the brain works as the "missing piece" of the puzzle in explaining why some people succeed and others never start. He is the founder of the Self-Talk Institute, a non-profit organization that sponsors Self-Talk programs in schools, prisons, churches around the country.
