Questions and Answers about
Attention Deficit Disorder

Working with Howard Morris of ADDA we created our first world wide web site in December of 1995. When the ADDA site officially went on line in February we were delighted with the response from ADD adults all over the world. By December of 1996 we had approximately 24,000 visitors just like you. As the ADDA site has grown and changed I decided to put my internet focus directly on providing information and answering questions about ADD and Adult ADD Self-Help groups, this site is the direct result of that decision. I have received an amazing amount of questions and responses across a broad variety of topics from our ADD visitors. So many questions and requests for information have been sent to me via the e-mail links from our web site, that while I have been able to read most messages I cannot respond to them all.

As a result I am looking for new ways to answer question and providing information.

  • I am working to assemble a team of volunteers qualified by either training or experience, to help me in processing and responding to the questions I am receiving. Any people who would like to help, please contact me now!
  • I am looking for Self-Help and Support Groups Leaders to help improve communications between our groups by providing information about their groups, and being willing to respond to questions from ADD adults in their regional areas. For those of you attending national conventions, like National ADDA, the ADDA Southern Region and CHADD conventions we could meet and discuss our groups.
  • I am sorting the questions and requests into general categories and answering them using this world wide web site, the online "ASK about ADD, newsletter, and my training and speaking opportunities across the country.
  • I am scheduling some time each week to review these messages and research the correct answers which will be available in some published form for use in our network of Adult Self-Help Groups.

As a result of this approach, many of your questions will be answered over time, and the information will be available to you. Some messages and questions are personal or urgent, and whenever possible, these will be answered as quickly and directly as I can respond. My ability to respond is limited and I ask that you be patient. None-the-less don't hesitate to remind me by e-mail of your question if it seems like I've forgotten or not responded quickly enough..

Another approach I am considering is to post representative questions on our web site, and ask that people qualified either by experience or training send answers and suggestions directly to me. I will sort them out, and reply in a confidential manner so that your name and contact information is not given out unless you request it.

I am looking for volunteers who have experience in education, testing and workplace issues, as well as people who speak multiple languages, especially Spanish. I am receiving questions from as far away as Brazil and Sweden, and some just across the boarder in Mexico or Canada.

Please let me know what you think of this approach, and again thanks for your patience as I learn how to meet the demands of this world wide web site. I am amazed at the number of ADD adults with situations and questions, who are brave enough to "come out of the closet" and ask for help and suggestions.

Sincerely,

D. Steven Ledingham
