Adults Seeking

You know, when I talk with folks about ADD,
I think they must get tired of hearing about it
all the time, but I also get tired of talking about it
all the time
And when I say the same things
over and over and they still don't seem to understand
and tell me "Oh I space out too"
or that "I understand how your feel"
I know they don't understand
because this is something that only happens to them
once or twice a week and happens to me
some days forty or fifty times a day
There is never a time that I don't need to pause
before I can remember a name or phone number
and if anyone makes a sound while I am thinking
I may not recall the name at all
Imagine what it is like to expect everyone in a conversation
to site quietly so I can recall the information I need to add
to our meeting, while I hope they don't interrupt me
before I can recall it
Forgetful, Ha, can someone imagine what it feels like to have to
take notes during a conversation
just so you can keep track of where you are at
from one sentence to the next
No, being forgetful, spaced or confused once in a while
is not like having Attention Deficit Disorder
not at all like having Attention Deficit Disorder
There is never a time when I don't have ADD
On some days, times or moments when I
don't seem to have it quiet as bad
I only miss some message or information
thirty times a day, instead of forty
I hope this helps you as a non-ADD person
to understand, this is not a passing fancy
of casual event that goes away the next day
like a cold that we get once in a while until we get well.
